Derek Murphy

Political Suburbanite

Derek began his life in the political arena in 2012, while still in college at Benedictine University, volunteering for Judy Biggert for Congress. After getting his feet wet in politics, Derek decided to take the fight to his local campus community by starting the College Republicans and joining the Downers Grove Township Republican Organization as a Precinct Committeeman. After graduating in 2014, Derek started working for Governor Bruce Rauner’s campaign. Following his victory in 2014, Derek helped lead a number of political efforts including: the Illinois Opportunity Project, Kasich for America, Citizens for Seth Lewis, Economic Freedom Alliance PAC and the Illinois Rebuild Project. In late 2017, Derek rejoined Governor Bruce Rauner’s re-election campaign as Suburban Director.

While politics plays a major role in his life, Derek is also a diehard Chicago Bulls and White Sox fan. While his teams are usually breaking his heart, Derek copes by exploring the city’s best food and beverage offerings. Although a devoted suburban guy, he believes Chicago is the best city in the world.
